Construction process
Architect Richard S. Colley began designing the memorial Coliseum and that's when the Coliseum started to catch attention nation wide. People saw the blueprint and were in disbelief that a building can be built in this structure and still be supported. People had fears that because it was going to be so long, the dome roof would cave in and it would be that trustworthy but Colley made it certain that the Coliseum was going to get built the was he had picture it and it would be completely safe. The roof structure was shapped like a barrel, it was 224 feet long, built out of lamella steel and weigh over 260 tons.

The Memorial Coliseum was extremely significant to Corpus Christi's history. The memorial Coliseum was a memorable building for just about the whole community. The Coliseum was dedicated to the veterans who lost their lives fighting in World War II and thats where it got its name, the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Coliseum was Corpus Christi's first big Venue. At the time it was built, the Coliseum was the main focal point of the city. This is the place where concerts, conferences, other entertainment events, and special occasions occurred. The building held so much history within it, after all its roof did set the world record. Many stars and musicians played at the Memorial Coliseum which is why the community saw the Coliseum as the highlight of the city. When the news broke that the Coliseum was going to be demolished many people felt heartbroken. Many people felt that the City was taking away part of their childhood because the Coliseum is where they made their happiest memories.
